Spearfishing Lesson Maui: Spearfish 101

The spearfishing lesson Maui experience, Spearfish 101, provides all the knowledge needed to safely and successfully continue in the sport of spearfishing. This 5-hour course covers essential topics such as fish identification, fish preservation, gun safety, breath-holding techniques, and hunting methods.

Course Structure and Activities

Participants spend approximately 2 hours in the water, enough to avoid getting cold while hunting fish and enjoying snorkeling. The exact end time depends on the dive location. After the water session, students leave their equipment with the instructor and have time for lunch.

Equipment and Meeting Point

All necessary equipment is included: gun, mask, snorkel, fins, “T-shirt style” wetsuit, weight belt, and gloves. The lesson typically begins at 7:00 a.m. at the snorkel rental and gift shop located just north of Ka’anapali on West Maui.

This lesson is designed to provide a solid foundation for spearfishing enthusiasts. The instructors also share local knowledge about favorite places to eat and have fun, helping participants plan their vacation activities.
