Stand-up-paddle lesson in Kihei introduces participants to the popular water sport known as SUP. This 1.5-hour lesson takes place at 1900 South Kihei Road and offers private and semi-private options. SUP is accessible to all ages and requires no previous experience.

Originally called “beach boy surfing,” SUP combines paddling and surfing skills. The lesson begins on flat water to help students find balance on oversized, stable boards. Riders use a long paddle for propulsion and steering, learning different strokes to maneuver effectively.

Lesson Details and Equipment

The boards used are larger and more stable than traditional surfing longboards, making them ideal for beginners. The course covers basic paddle techniques and balance, progressing to catching waves for those ready. Action Sports Maui supplies all equipment, including various board sizes to accommodate different body types.

SUP is less physically demanding than regular surfing, making it a great family activity. The lesson is not available on Sundays or public holidays, and dates and times are limited. Pricing starts at $165.
