Experience Hilo’s beauty from a new perspective as you glide along the calm, scenic waters of the Wailoa River on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP). This adventure is perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers aged 8 and up (minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

Your tour begins with a guided launch from the Wailoa boat ramp. Paddle through peaceful channels lined with lush greenery and glide beneath elegant Japanese-style “dragon arch” bridges. Along the way, spot native birds, colorful fish, and other wildlife that inhabit the river.

Midway, take a break near the King Kamehameha Statue where your guide shares stories about Hilo’s history, including the rise of King Kamehameha and the tsunamis that reshaped the town. The route also passes through the Wailoa River State Recreation Area, home to an arboretum featuring some of the largest tree species outside Africa.
