Experience Hilo’s natural beauty on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) as you glide along the calm, scenic waters of the Wailoa River. This adventure is perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers aged 8 and up (minors must be accompanied by an adult).
Launch from the Wailoa boat ramp and paddle through peaceful channels lined with lush greenery. Pass beneath graceful Japanese-style “dragon arch” bridges and spot native birds, colorful fish, and other wildlife.
Midway, take a break near the King Kamehameha Statue, where your guide shares stories about Hilo’s history, including the rise of King Kamehameha and the impact of tsunamis. The route also passes through the Wailoa River State Recreation Area, home to an arboretum with some of the largest tree species outside Africa.
